Grinnell InfoSystems, Inc., grew out of the increasing need to develop computerized processing for FarMutual Insurance Companies.

Initially, software development and hardware recommendations came from the Information Systems department at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company, but in 1985, IS-Software services became Grinnell InfoSystems, Inc.

The first generation product, AMI (Automated Mutual Insurance), began serving companies in the fall of 1983 with accounting functions. AMI II expanded to include policy processing in 1985, followed by claims. As the number of AMI users grew to include more than 50 companies, demand for more sophisticated software led to development of a second software package-- MAP, or Mutual Automated Processing.

MAP evolved into MAP+ in 1995  to include multi-user (network) capabilities, numerous reports and various billing options. Policy processing, claims, and accounting functions are all part of MAP+.

MAP+ has a new name, a new look and the best available technology. MAP+ is evolving into a true Windows® based product and is called GIS Oasis. The same excellent support. The same reliable processing.

In February 1998, Grinnell InfoSystems purchased the assets of Information Designs, Inc. (IDI) of Holmen, WI.  IDI has provided high-quality information systems to mutual insurance companies for over 10 years.  The assets acquired include the MSIC (Modular Software for Insurance Companies) insurance processing system - a system currently utilized by clients in eight Midwestern states.

GIS products continue to change as business needs change. Because technologies such as the Internet have reshaped how business is conducted, GIS is revising its product line to include Internet ready products. The first Internet based product, myQuoting.com® has demonstrated how the Internet can be used to efficiently price and apply for insurance. Future products will continue to explore opportunities to improve communication between FarMutuals and their business partners.

The number of GIS clients now tops 125, and continues to grow.
